How to keep side control
Warmup 1. Passing open guard (touching with your shin opponents hip with control)
- control legs - push back to mat
- double under - leg drag - klee slice/torrendo
Instruction side control idea
1. Connection, chest-to-chest alignment – aligning the Iron Man beacons – and weight distribution with all primary arm positions (both on the near side, both on the far side, and the two staggered arm positions)2. Always block out the near side hip/thigh to prevent opponent from recovering guard (you can do this with your knee, arm, or hip)
3. Kill (isolate) the near side arm to beat the frame
4. Control the far side arm to prevent opponent from rolling away
5. Attack (to improve position and/or submit your opponent)
Game: 2. Keeping side control vs escaping side control
To finish the class: 3. Sand wrestling 3 minute or 3 points matches
- lifting both feet up from mat (1 point)
- Standing, but getting back control (1 point) - lifting or takedown (extra point)
- tripping so that hand or any other part touches the mat (takedown) - but it has to be with control! Taking back after takedown is an extra points
- No points for "push out"
- No overtime
- Attackers knee or hand is allowed to touch the mat when shooting for single leg or double leg, but if opponents sprawls and both hands touch the mat - opponent gets a point
